Dear Family of Sister Meacham,
We are pleased to inform that your daughter has arrived safe and sound and smiling to the Chile Osorno Mission. It was a pleasure for us to greet your daughter upon her arrival and feel her desire to serve. Enclosed is a picture that we took with her shortly after her arrival. After a short period of orientation regarding mission procedures, customs of the country, etc., we assigned Sister Meacham to work with Sister Steele as her companion. Your daughter's address during her time in the mission will be:
Casilla 7-0
Osorno, Chile
Please write her regularly–at least once a week. Your love, interest, and support will be of great help to her. Should there be any emergency or if you desire information regarding any urgent situation, please feel free to contact the Missionary Department in Salt Lake City rather than go to the expense of phoning the mission here in Chile.
The missionary work is progressing rapidly here in southern Chile, and I hope that you will share in her exciting mission experience as Sister Meacham writes to you weekly and keeps you informed of her challenges and achievements and experiences.
Sincerely,
President Rodrigo Obeso
Chile Osorno Mission

The city is well known for its German traditions, its food, its fish and seafood, located on the shore of the Llanquihue Lake, one of the largest natural lakes in South America. The perfect cone of Osorno Volcano and the snowcapped peaks of Mt. Calbuco and Mt.Tronador are clearly visible from the lakefront.
The city of Puerto Varas, also known as "La ciudad de las rosas" or “the city of roses”, was founded in 1854 by Vicente Pérez Rosales.
Puerto Varas a historical treasure of strong German features. What most distinguishes the city of Puerto Varas is its architecture, strong German influence, which resembles a people taken from a European spot. Puerto Varas is located in a spectacular natural environment. A route that connects to a border crossing into the town of Bariloche in Argentina, offers a route along Lake Llanquihue with its landscapes framed by snowy peaks. Most of the Forest and the area are completely unspoilt and are ideal for hiking.
